Daily Reads #13

Welcome to the working week readers and as we are approaching the last stretch of July, nows the time to start speed-reading and hit those monthly targets. Well at least I know that’s what I will be doing!

So over the weekend I got a little impatient and started reading two highly anticipated books on my TBR pile. So far I am really enjoying them both and hope to continue reading them this week. I also managed to finish reading A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness so keep checking back for the review over the next few days.

I know we are halfway through the summer already, please don’t hate me for pointing that out but I have a summer reading post coming in the next few days as well. As nothing says summer than a cold drink, a sunbed and a good book, and whether you like a poolside soppy or a steamy romance, I’ve put together a few books that I’ve enjoyed reading over previous summers or have set aside for my poolside venture in the next few weeks. So keep checking back as that post will be up too in the next few days.

So let’s move onto the books that I plan on reading this week. As I mentioned before I have started two, but I’ve only just turned the first few pages so I’m planning on continuing The One by Kiera Cass and The Unbound by Victoria Schwab. Both books are the follow ups to their own series and have two very distinct plots, so it’s nice to have the option of what to read depending on how I’m feeling.

The One by Kiera Cass is the third book in The Selection series and finalises the competition for Prince Maxon as he must choose who will become his Princess. America Singer has been in the competition from the start and despite dreading the thoughts of living in the palace and spending anytime with the Prince, she now finds it difficult to imagine her future without him. However, she is stuck between not only the Prince but her first love, Aspen. This may be the hardest decision for America to make but then again she fears she may already be losing the Prince to her fellow competitors as she may have left him waiting too long.

This book is so exciting and fast paced; I am really enjoying reading it. The previous two books, The Selection and The Elite were brilliant in their own ways and I would definitely recommend them to anyone that enjoys young adult books with a love triangle and a twist of hierarchy. I can’t wait to spend time reading this book and will hopefully have it finished and a review up over the next few days.

The Unbound by Victoria Schwab is the follow up book from The Archived and it is amazing. The Archived was mind-blowing, so unique and interesting. I loved every page of it as McKenzie was handed down the key from her grandfather who taught her how to become a keeper. As a keeper she is expected to keep an eye on the narrows and return any dead that has woken. The Archive is where the dead’s memories are stored like books in a library and as McKenzie tries to battle with this side of her life she must keep it a secret and appear normal to those in reality.

The Unbound so far is really good and despite only being a few chapters in the plot is beginning to twist and become suspenseful. Already this book has a new setting and has introduced new characters that I am beginning to hate and love. I can’t wait to get an evening this week to just sit down and get stuck between the pages.

I hope you are all having a great week!
