Happy Monday Readers,
This week I am wanting to do a little catching up, call it spring cleaning if you will because I want to clean out the books I am currently reading and finish up the ones that have spent too long on my ‘currently reading’ shelf. The two books I want to focus on finishing this week are The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead and Born a Crime by Trever Noah. Two incredible reads that I have not had a lot of time to devote to, but require a lot of thinking power because they tackle some pretty big themes.
Colson Whitehead’s The Underground Railroad is a book I have wanted to read for so long but I feel like I need to be in the right frame of mind to read it because it tackles the plantation era of slavery and escaping the conditions for a better life. Whereas Born a Crime talks about Trevor Noah’s life born of a black mother and white father and how it was a persecuted crime at the time of his birth. This week I want to set aside time to devote to these two books and give them the time and effort that they deserve as they bring to light some very serious and important themes.
Well readers I hope you all have a great week and make the most of the final week in April. This is another reason I want to tidy up my ‘currently reading’ pile so I can make a fresh start in May with a new pile of books and some new challenges.
