Hello 2018!

Well hello 2018 and aren’t you a surprise!

After 26 years, 6 months and countless minutes I am always shocked how quickly time goes by. We’re already into a new year and I can’t believe I am looking once again at the books I read last year and the ones I am hoping to read in 2018. Last year brought many changes and challenges and gave me the opportunity to make some amazing memories.  Of course 2017 was my first year married, my husband and I bought a house, we went on many holidays to London, Paris, travelled the south of Ireland and I even started a new job so no doubt 2017 was a successful year for me. However I’m sure most of that is unnecessary as you want to know more about the books and less about the other stuff so here goes; in 2017 I read a whopping 84 books which is the most I have read yet.

I have read some fantastic books over the past year so below are my top 5 books from this year. It was difficult to pick just 5 out of the 84 I read but I forced myself to keep it to just a few favourites.  So in no particular order below are my favourite reads from last year.

The Thousandth Floor – Katherine McGee

Origin – Dan Brown

Turtles All the Way Down – John  Green

The Rules of Magic – Alice Hoffman

The Rules of Magic

The Raven Boys – Maggie Steifvater

It was really tough to pick just a few books because I have read so many that I really enjoyed and some books that I will continue visiting because they are the start of a series but I highly recommend the books above and if you haven’t picked them up yet you totally should.

This year I have set myself the pretty big challenge of reading 100 books by the end of 2018. It is a pretty hefty challenge for me but I am hoping to be able to reach it or even get past it. January has started quite strong but it seems to be every year that I reach a reading slump half way and have to try and find my way back to books by the end of summer. As I have no idea where I will be by summer this year I am just hoping that my motivation to keep reading will be intact.

This year there are also a few personal goals and challenges that I would like to reach however these revolve around series I would like to read;

Harry Potter –J.K Rowling

Harry Potter

Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit – J.R.R.Tolkien

Lord of the Rings

Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants – Ann Brashares

Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants

Twilight – Stephanie Meyer

I’m hoping to re-read the Harry Potter and Sisterhood series this year however I have to shamefully admit that I have never read Lord of the Rings or the Twilight series despite owning the books. I have seen the Twilight movies so I know what to expect and if I’m honest I did enjoy the movies even if I did find Bella’s character to be a little irritating. When it comes to Lord of the Rings I know of this world, I know there are movies but I have never seen them and it just seems difficult to grasp when people are explaining it to me. I did listen to an audiobook of the first book but I think that reading it in hard copy will help me understand what is going on and who each characters is a little better.

So I wish you all the best for the next year and I hope that you aim high for your reading challenges and reach it with ease.

Sounds like a great 2017. I hope 2018 will be just as good to you.
Some great books you got there. Glad to see Origins on it. I’ve gotten so curious about Dan Brown that I finally picked up Angels & Demons.

Thank you, I totally recommend all of Dan Brown’s work. Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code were two of my favourites! I hope you enjoy it!
