Once again the most romantic time of the year comes back around, love is in the air, chocolates and roses are on shop shelves and everywhere is decorated in red. There is no escaping the holiday of love, everywhere you look the world is drowning in chocolate hearts and cards but for those of you that want to buy something a little different here is my pick of love themed reads. If you’re like me with the chocolates, the cards and the chubby cherubs stuffing the theme of love down your throat, then it’s time to turn to a book with the same feelings.
Below I have listed 14 of my favourite books that look at love in the traditional sense, unrequited and some with a twist, so get that heart shaped box of chocolates ready, light a scented candle and settle in for your date with a book.
The Fault in Our Stars – John Green
P.S. I Love You – Cecilia Ahern
Me Before You – Jojo Moyes
Cruel Beauty – Rosamund Hodge
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe – Benjamin Alire Saenz
Practical magic – Alice Hoffman
Carry On – Rainbow Rowell
Just One Day – Gayle Forman
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before – Jenny Han
The Perks of Being a Wallflower – Stephen Chbosky
Of course I have to mention some of my favourite romantic classics…doesn’t everyone want a Mr Darcy?
Pride and Prejudice – Jane Austen
Jane Eyre – Charlotte Bronte
The Great Gatsby – F.Scott Fitzgerald
Wuthering Heights – Emily Bronte
As you can tell from the titles above I haven’t picked up books with a happy ending because for many of us we know the truth about love. It doesn’t always have the perfect ending, it isn’t always with a significant other, love is found in the strangest of places, it can heal and it can hurt. No matter how you feel this Valentine’s Day I hope this list helps you find a book to suit your mood.
Happy Valentine’s Day
